15th Annual NEPHC Returns to Waukewan

The 15th Annual New England Pond Hockey Classic presented by Coors Light is around the corner. Below you will find details and information about this year's tourney.

Location: We will once again be lacing ‘em up on Waukewan.

Full transparency: This winter has well…not been very cold. Last week, the Ice Ops team was out on Meredith Bay on 2-3 inches of ice and pumped over 500,000 gallons of water onto the surface of Winnipesaukee in hopes of building ice on the top and bottom of the surface. Unfortunately, the recent burst of cold temps and the efforts did not give us what we needed to safely host the event on Meredith Bay.

When you arrive next week, you will see Meredith Bay frozen however, the ice is as variable as we have ever seen it. The warm winter and rain have created high levels of flows and currents that encompass a good portion of the tournament site. These currents restrict ice growth and make it impossible for us to safely and confidently put snow removal machines, ice maintenance equipment, and ultimately thousands of people come tourney weekend on the lake.

As we hear of tournament after tournament canceling due to weather this year, we are grateful to have Waukewan and the support of Middleton Building Supply and the town of Meredith. We cannot wait to hit the ice with all of you next week!

What does the tourney being on Waukewan mean for you? The only major logistical change is there is no on-site parking at Lake Waukewan, which means you and your team will need to plan, arrive at a designated parking area, and take a shuttle down to the site.

Hosting our event on Lake Waukewan comes with several prohibitions and restrictions because Lake Waukewan is the town of Meredith's water supply. The town of Meredith and its residents have welcomed and supported the Pond Hockey Classic since our first year and we need YOUR HELP to make sure we continue to have a positive impact on the community through our event.

Below are a list of important prohibitions and restrictions that apply to the Lake Waukewan Watershed - to see the full list click here

  • No fires

  • No dogs

  • No glass bottles

  • No littering

  • No vehicles

It is important that as a member of the PHC we all abide by these rules and continue to keep our event on the best of terms with the town of Meredith.

As always, we look forward to seeing you and your team on the ice with us for an epic weekend of pond hockey.
